Just want to point this out: Fluorescent lights flicker at around 50Hz (50 flashes per second). This has a weird effect on cameras; if your shutter speed is above 1/50th, you will capture the flicker of the light. That is what happened to this video.

El Guincho – Bombay
This music video contains everything necessary to be awesome; good music, absurd humor, topless girls on BMX bikes, and even a skateboarding clip. It was filmed by spanish cinematographer Marc Gomez del Moral and produced by CANADA.
Sony and Panasonic HD DSLR-inspired Video Cameras
Sony and Panasonic have been busy trying to catch up to the recent hysteria created by Canon’s DSLR series capable of awesome cinema-like HD video, bigger image sensors, and interchangeable lenses. Sony has recently introduced the NEX-VG10, and Panasonic will introduce the AG-AF100 by the end of 2010.
Both companies took a more traditional approach to camera design, much to BMX and skateboarding’s benefit, with handles, proper audio inputs and mics, autofocus, and the ability to record and store long video clips . Anyone that has shot video with a 5D, or similar, has dealt with the shakiness of the footage. Shoulder-mounts and other stabilizers aren’t always the cheapest or most convenient. These two new cameras really open the door for more filming possibilities, like long lines.

I’m seriously considering making the trip to B&H to see if I can press all of the buttons on the Sony. It is definitely the more affordable of the two. Recently my VX-2000 needed some much-needed CCD and head repair, and I’ve been looking at the many options for an upgrade. Looks like I’ll be scrounging together all of my loose change.
Beer and Film Tour
Out for a while with a broken leg, I’m constantly looking for things to keep my mind off missing the best sessions of the year weather-wise. I found a great event here in Athens, Ga sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company. They are big supporters of bike riding in any form, and highly encourage pedaling over driving when possible. They sponsor many events promoting their responsibility to the environment and their passion for all things bicycle related. The event I’m heading to is a stop on their “Clips of Faith Beer and Film Tour“. It features sampling 16 of their “Lips of Faith” brews, local vendor’s food, and projector showings of homemade movies from “kayaking buddies navigating grizzlies and whales on a paddling trip from Alaska to Seattle, to an absurdist spaghetti western about a flat tire (and some beer). There are visual odes to people’s love affairs with their bikes, assorted comedy shorts, and thought-provoking environmental pieces.”

Flisheye Lens (Flip Fisheye?)
I stumbled across this gem the other day… It’s a tiny fisheye made for Flip cams and iPhones. It comes with little adhesive rings that I hope are strong enough. At least it works for this guy. Mine is in the mail, but I will post a review with some comparisons once it arrives. Buy it here for $16.75.

Digital Holga
Didn’t think this would ever happen. It’s just a concept right now, but it sounds like it will have multiple shutter speeds (from bulb to 1/2000) and have a removable top panel which will cater to the left-handed population. I’ve actually never thought about that until now… I don’t think I’ve ever seen a left-handed camera.
