My experience with prime lenses isn’t extensive by any means, but having used the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 for about 4 months, I can say that I truly love it. It helps produce incredible pictures with impressive depth of field, as well asbeautiful video. After minimal research, browsing Vimeo for videos shot with the 50mm on the same camera I use, and looking at a few photos my friend took on his Canon 7d, I was easily sold.
