The video cameras of choice for BMX filmers
Nuno at Defgrip made an article where the more popular BMX filmers of this era describe the video cameras they use and why. I found it rather informative, maybe you will too.
Walter Pieringer
While doing some website maintenance this morning I realized that I had forgotten some people on the ‘Links’ page. One of them being Walter Pieringer. Walter is unquestionably one of the best BMX photographers of our time. Taking a look at his website is proof. But what a lot of people don’t know is that Walter was also a shredder back in the day. Don’t believe me? This is where I was going to post a clip from Props where he does that huge wallride and smashes out his teeth. Can’t find it. Fail.
GoPro Tester Vid
from Stranger. A couple of clips from using a GoPro camera, the Helmet model I think. The picture looks great, and it has a 170 degree field of view. They seem to be a worthy opponent of the more popular pocket-sized video cameras.

You know, I always forget to look at the ESPN website. So naturally I was surprised to see that the ‘Photo of the Day’ for Wednesday was a photo that I shot. It was a mild nutty-tap reminding me to take advantage of the infinite number of resources the internet has to offer. The first article on the BMX page was written by friend and fellow Ohio-an Cody York. It was actually about an ad that he had seen in ESPN the Magazine (while in a doctors office of all places, a sight I’m no stranger to these days) posing a question about the internet ruining printed media. It’s a good point, one I forget to take into account; Photographs printed look a lot better than they do on the screen. That’s not to say that this photo of Bobby Simmons doesn’t shine on its own, because it does. I guess what I’m trying to say is go to the ESPN website for exceptional coverage of all major sports.
Cinema Wheel Co. Promo
Filmed and edited by Will Stroud using a Panasonic HVX200 and a Canon 7D. A couple of Nathans and Coreys clips were filmed on an iPhone 4. Amazingly it is hard to pick out which ones.

Beer and Film Tour
Out for a while with a broken leg, I’m constantly looking for things to keep my mind off missing the best sessions of the year weather-wise. I found a great event here in Athens, Ga sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company. They are big supporters of bike riding in any form, and highly encourage pedaling over driving when possible. They sponsor many events promoting their responsibility to the environment and their passion for all things bicycle related. The event I’m heading to is a stop on their “Clips of Faith Beer and Film Tour“. It features sampling 16 of their “Lips of Faith” brews, local vendor’s food, and projector showings of homemade movies from “kayaking buddies navigating grizzlies and whales on a paddling trip from Alaska to Seattle, to an absurdist spaghetti western about a flat tire (and some beer). There are visual odes to people’s love affairs with their bikes, assorted comedy shorts, and thought-provoking environmental pieces.”
